Self-esteem grows rapidly as these skills are successfully practiced in an innovative and supportive environment. For seven years Animals as Natural Therapy has been changing the lives of youth and adults, many of the youth considered "at risk" by social service agencies.

At Windy Acres Farm, carefully planned and guided activities with horses and other animals help one learn the give and take of Respect. One learns the difficult task of developing Trust between self and another. One learns what makes an honest and trusted friend or leader. One learns how our moods and behaviors affect others. One must Clearly Communicate what one wants and needs to be successful in any relationship, with horse or human. With our animal partners, human mentors, and metaphors one learns to "read" and understand another while discovering a lot about oneself.

People practice responsibility and nurturing skills through the special relationships built with staff and animals and leave with a feeling of success and accomplishment. This process significantly improves the health of our entire community by replacing dysfunctional and possibly abusive relationships with respectful nurturing ones.
